The "Redneck" Kentucky-5 is a limited edition banjo made in the style of Jimmy's very first Kentucky-5. The neck is shaped from select mahogany, and the inlay design on the neck is the original Kentucky-5 pattern. The state of Kentucky is inlaid into the peghead and engraved with "Cox Kentucky-5." Like the original, the resonator is curly maple with a rich red-brown stain.

Listen to the "Redneck", raised head.

Listen to the "Redneck", flat head.

To get the well broken-in sound he was looking for in this model, Jimmy chose to use the Timeless Timber old wood rim. These special 3-ply rims are made by Jimmy and his grandsons from centuries-old logs raised from the bottom of Lake Michigan. This wood is very dense and perfectly preserved from its years under water. Carefully sawed, steamed, bent and machined, this wood makes an outstanding banjo rim.
